One of the largest intact floodplain landscapes in Central Europe is located in Austria - the Donau-Auen National Park.

The city of Vienna has a small part of the national park in the urban area. The national park stretches eastward to the border with Slovakia.

Extensive alluvial forests, Danube oxbow lakes and hotlands where wild orchids bloom in spring shape the landscape. You can also observe wild animals such as deer, wild boar and sea eagles in the floodplains. And encounters with kingfisher, otters or beavers are not uncommon in the waters.

Since the floodplains are repeatedly flooded, the landscape is constantly changing. So there are always new motifs to discover and the area always remains exciting.
